Mary Louise (Kagy) Bidwell, aged 97.
Mary Louise Bidwell passed away on January 15, 2026 in Riverside, CA.
Born on November 2, 1928, in Republic, Ohio, Mary was the daughter of Letha Louise and Jesse Kagy. Mary graduated from Bloomville High School before going on to earn both her BS and Master’s degrees in Home Economics at Bowling Green State University and Ohio State University.
She taught in Ohio and then ventured west on a road trip with a friend. She settled in Riverside, CA after accepting a position teaching Home Economics at Poly High School. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, where she met her future husband, Jack Bidwell. Together they raised three children: John, Frank, and Julia
After leaving teaching to focus on raising her family, Mary remained engaged with her church. She served many roles and participated in several church groups. Mary was a skilled seamstress, well known for her creative sewing—from Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren, to items for church bazaars, T-shirt quilts, Frostline kits, and many projects for neighbors and friends well into early her early 90s. Later in life, she used these skills to teach adult education.
Mary loved the beach, so annual family trips were among her cherished experiences. Early mornings always found her out collecting shells along the shoreline. She loved elephants, old movies, and reading a good book.
Her family expresses deep gratitude to the staff at Citrus Place and Synergy for their care and support.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, her devoted husband Jack Bidwell, sister Harriet (Wright), and son John. She is survived by her daughter Julia (Andy) Elliott, son Frank (Claudia) Bidwell, daughter-in-law MaryAnne, grandson Joshua (Ariana) Bidwell and great-granddaughter Eleanor, grandson Eric Bidwell, and step-grandson, Travis Elliott. She also leaves behind numerous other relatives, and dear friends.
